Fall is a great time to consider installing a transmission cooler in your vehicle. For many people, the busyness of summer travel has settled down, the kids are back in school, and there\u2019s finally time to work on vehicle projects before the snow and freezing temperatures hit.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lot of people know about the great transmission cooling products Tru Cool\u2122 offers, but sometimes it\u2019s confusing as to whether or not a thermal bypass is needed with a cooler. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Our most popular transmission cooler from Tru-Cool\u2122, part number LNG-47391<\/a><\/span>, has a sister cooler under part number LNG-4739<\/a><\/span>. The only difference between the two? The 4739 comes with a thermal bypass, while the 47391 does not.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what is a thermal bypass? <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The thermal bypass is a small added valve that goes in the\u00a0transmission line.\u00a0\u00a0When the transmission is cold, the thermal bypass will\u00a0“bypass”\u00a0the cooler so it can\u00a0bring the transmission up to operating temperature\u00a0more quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do I need a thermal bypass?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

A bypass is not something that is typically needed unless you live in a\u00a0fairly cold climate; for example, a place where temperatures in the winter are regularly below 32\u00b0F.<\/span><\/p>\n

I already own a cooler but it doesn’t have a\u00a0bypass.\u00a0 Can I buy\u00a0the bypass\u00a0separately and add it on?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes.\u00a0 The bypass works very well with other\u00a0coolers, such as the Tru Cool\u2122 49211 <\/a><\/span>cooler.\u00a0 So if you\u00a0already have a cooler you like, adding the bypass on is definitely okay.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
